As a professional writer, I can easily spend countless hours combing over a project again and again. Not only do I need to make sure that each piece hits the tone and voice that I am aiming for, but I also need to make sure that the piece actually reaches my target audience. That’s hard to do.
Carleen takes “SEO on the go” with INK on her laptop,
Before INK, I would approach writing for SEO the same way I had approached creative and technical writing in the past. I spent tons of time writing an article that I was proud of. But, I wouldn’t consider SEO until after it was already complete.
Of course, this meant spending significant chunks of time on edits and adjustments—on a piece that I thought was finished!
With INK, I can “SEO on the go”, saving myself time and frustration. INK works seamlessly to keep me on track, all while providing useful insights and helping me to work toward writing articles that perform better—the first time I write them!
With INK, my articles get where they need to go. Five stars and a big “hooray” from me! Go INK!
You may be writing great content — but is anyone reading it?
This is what I was always asking myself. As a professional writer for all types of clients, I have written hundreds of articles over the years. But back then, I didn’t really consider the SEO strategies behind each piece of content.
Once I started writing for SEO purposes, my content was immediately taken to the next level. Looking back now, I can’t imagine writing anything without using INK. It takes the guesswork out of trying to figure out what keywords work best and how to best optimize my work.
Me kicking butt using INK — this content eventually ended up in SERP #3
As a seasoned writer, encountering “writing for SEO” for the first time was a challenge. Yet, INK made it simple to include this element in my writing.
I turn in projects confidently, knowing the clients for which I write will get the best SEO results possible. I am proud of my work! The thought of trying to figure out Google and stay ahead of the constant algorithm changes seems daunting — and way over my head.
Luckily, I don’t have to worry about that. I can focus on what I’ve always been good at: using and tweaking language to create a pleasant experience for the reader.
With INK, I know the content I create is the best both for the reader and the crawler.
I first started writing professionally in 2011 for a non-profit organization. While I enjoyed writing posts for the company blog, it wasn’t gaining traction in search results for any of the subjects we were covering. Even back then, before I knew what SEO was, I wanted to rank.
It wasn’t until years later that I learned why. In the spring of 2018, I had just entered the field of SEO. I learned that content needs quality, comprehensive SEO in order to rank. So, I learned everything I could about search engine optimization. I read top SEO websites. I asked experts as many questions as you can fit into a webinar chat box.
By then I was blogging for several clients on myriad subjects. Yet, I still wasn’t getting great results.
“Why not try social media ads?” one former client suggested. “That might get your stuff ranking.”
That’s when it really hit me. Despite doing what I thought was everything right, my content wasn’t being read. It felt like laboring on a great work of art and then locking it away. Sure, it was there. I created something. But how could anyone see it?
Enter INK
I first learned about INK when I started my job at Edgy Labs. After using INK a while, it taught me something. I realized that the reason my content hadn’t been doing well was because I was following arbitrary rules.
Regardless of topic, for my biggest client, each piece of content I wrote had to be 750 words or more. I was being paid to produce writing on an efficient schedule, but SEO doesn’t work like that. There’s more to creating relevant content than just one or two variables.
Audrey Hollingshead INKing out some SEO content.
Of course, there are some rules you should follow. But others are more flexible. Word count, since we’re already talking about it, is one of them. Depending on the most important keywords, the page elements of your competitors, and the particular type of search intent involved, you may need to write just 300 words, or well over 2,000.
INK understands this on its own. When you input the focus keyword you’re after, INK scours the web and takes every SEO variable into account. It tells you the exact word count you need to rank — holy cow!
How INK Helps Me
Word count isn’t the only thing INK helps me with.
Before using this SEO app I needed to use these several apps to write content:
Yoast
The Hemingway Editor
Grammarly
TinyPNG
Adobe Photoshop Elements
After using INK:
Just … INK
INK combines a suit of apps into one powerhouse content optimizer. Plus, it makes writing content easier. Thanks INK!
I’m Sumbo Bello, a Nigerian freelance writer who creates search engine optimized content for news sites.
For me, SEO writing is all about the metrics. Since the goal is to get a specific keyword to rank on the search engine, I have to optimize the content as much as I could while making it easy to read.
That’s not nearly as easy as it sounds.
After typing in MS Word, I would paste to Grammarly to check for grammar issues, then Hemmingway App to confirm the readability score. Finally, the content makes its way to WordPress, where I would check that it’s optimized for search engine using the Yoast Plug-in.
Not only was the whole process time-consuming and exhausting, but it was also ineffective.
As great as Yoast was, it was missing some metrics. It didn’t provide information about the content or topical relevance. So, when a client asks if the blog would rank for a keyword, the reply was always; “Yoast showed green”.
The process was like playing Pin the Tail on the Donkey and hoping to hit the target. That didn’t always happen.
I finally switched to INK – a real SEO writing editor, and the blindfolds came off. INK does everything!
Thanks to INK, I no longer use so many writing tools.
INK identifies the sentences that are difficult to read, including passive voice and adverbs in your content. That way, the Hemingway App became unnecessary.
I could also check my spelling and grammar in real-time and make the necessary corrections. That’s not all.
INK is a proper SEO writing editor. That means I could optimize my content straight from the app.
Along with the keyphrase, I could type in the meta title, meta description, and even the alt text.
But, the best part may be the metrics.
After analyzing the keyword and content, the INK provides information on the content and topical relevance. No, it’s not green, yellow, or red color, but real numbers expressed as a percentage.
It even analyses other content on the first page of the SERP to suggest a word count for your keyword. And when I’m done, I can upload the file into WordPress.
That’s right, no more copy / paste.
With INK, optimizing content has become more comfortable and more productive. It also makes me look more professional. Now I can send real numbers to my clients instead of colors.
I highly recommend INK, particularly to SEO writers who are looking to provide a more professional service.
