Yoast just rolled out its Yoast SEO 11.0 update, offering a revamped version of the plugin’s Schema markup implementation. The update reportedly aims to improve the structured data entry for online users while binding together Schema pieces to give search engines more context. Yoast explained:
“Structured data is incredibly important. Many of the current and future search enhancements are — or will be — powered by structured data. While search engines are good at reading content, structured data can help them to understand. Yoast SEO has supported some basic Schema markup for ages, but now we’re going much further. Yoast SEO 11.0 features a completely rewritten Schema.org implementation — the first one of its kind, offering a fully integrated graph.”
According to Yoast, structured data will enable search engines to better understand what a page is all about. For instance, it can help Google know quickly if a page is an article about a product made by a particular brand. The search engine no longer has to crawl the whole page and read its content or follow its links to figure it out.
The updated Schema markup reportedly won’t affect search rankings. However, the structured data implementation will significantly improve the appearance of listings. The updated Schema markup implementation is available to WordPress CMS and Yoast SEO plugin users.
The rewritten Schema structured data implementation uses entity graphs instead of the usually complicated arrays of nested data. This helps publishers understand what’s happening behind Yoast SEO and makes life easier for SEO experts and developers. Yoast added:
“Yoast SEO 11.0 features a brand-new, revolutionary Schema implementation — one that is destined to give search engines all your connections on a silver platter. This is a great development, not only for you and for search engines, but, more importantly, for the web in general.”
